Painting exhibit by Joan Barrows

The Jaffrey Civic Center is pleased to announce an exhibit of watercolor and oil paintings by Joan Barrows will be on view in the first floor Display Cases until February 9.

“For me, thinking about, involving myself in, and creating art, always just felt right.  Not that I've been particularly confident doing so but I've always received encouragement from those close to me.

The nonprofit Sharon Arts Center will present its 65th Annual Members Exhibition from Jan. 13 to Feb. 27, 2012. Sponsored by Sequoya Technologies, the exhibition is a continuing tradition for the Monadnock region and a major display of art by Sharon Arts members, students, and faculty. Included in the exhibit are paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and more.

The Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery will host the 2012 Biennial Keene State College Art Faculty Exhibition featuring photography and graphic design works by two new faculty members, Rebecca Davis-Kelly and Jonathan Gitelson, and intaglio prints by long-time art professor John Roberts.

Contra Dance in Nelson NH on Saturday February 11

The Monadnock Folklore Society presents the Nelson Second Saturday Contra Dance on February 11th, featuring Adina Gordon calling with Trip to Nelson.

Based in Brattleboro, VT, Adina Gordon has called dances in 36 American states, as well as 3 Canadian provinces and Israel.

Trip to Nelson is a lively band with a full orchestral sound. They play with flair and flourish while still having a traditional sound. Anchored by veteran Gordon Peery at the piano, this band of teen musicians came together at the weekly Nelson Monday dances.

Wooden Dinosaur CD Release Party

The Monadnock Folklore Society is hosting a CD Release Party and concert featuring 'Wooden Dinosaur' to celebrate the release of the band's second full length album 'Spaces'. The event takes place at the Nelson, NH Town all at 8:00 PM on Friday, February 10. Opening the show will be Michael Chorney & Dollar General.
 
Admission is $12/$9(senior, youth, or in advance online(www.monadnockfolk.org)).

Night of the Iguana, by Tennessee Williams, is a drama set in a cheap Mexican resort hotel that attracts losers and low-lifes.  The proprietress is a tough, rapacious, sex-starved widow.  To the hotel come a neurotic, defrocked minister on the verge of a mental breakdown and a gentle, artistic, penniless spinster with her dying grandfather in tow.  The rapport between the minister and the spinster (to the jealousy of the widow) creates a medium through which the Reverend Shannon and Miss Jelkes reveal the unquenchable spirit that transcends their misery, lonelin

Sexual Perversity in Chicago and The Duck Variations by David Mamet.

Sexual Perversity focuses on two male office workers, Danny and Bernie, on the make in the swinging singles scene of the early 1970s.  When each takes a lover, the politics of sex and the attendant confusions lead to many comic turns that throw yet another light on the eternal war of the sexes.
