I am a self taught artist. I paint portraits of people and animals either in black and white or in color working exclusively ink. I also paint landscapes and buildings. I accept commissions from people desiring images of themselves, loved ones, pets, and their homes. I'm also in the process of printing from original images I have created over the years and selling prints. My primary goal is to create beauty and continue to do the kind of work that others will love. I do greatly enjoy creating portraits from photographs and bringing them to life. The most satisfying part of my art, is making someone smile when they the results. I guess the real problem I have is not in my artistic ability, but is in my inability to market myself. The image I am submitting captures the famous image of the girl with the pearl earring. I completely changed the girl in the picture and she wears a small diamond earring instead. I believe I was very successful at bringing this image to life with the use of colored inks. I created this image using a method called pointillism. It is made up entirely of small dots and layering the dots with different colored ink. When drawing a building or structure, I use lines, cross hatching etc.

I am a recently retired (June of 2007) teacher of English, journalism, and photography, who has set about to make a new patchwork career of several hobbies (i.e. photography, watercolor painting, drawing, and the making of note cards).
As of December 2009, a selection of my paintings and all of my note cards have been for sale at the Walpole Artisans' Co-operative, an organization of which I am a member.
Having taken the photographs for the Walpole Historical Society's recent calendars (2004 - 2010), I have started my own set of paintings and drawings of some of the historic houses in Walpole. I have also painted a few street scenes of some of the downtown hangouts.
Slowly, I'm building skills and inventory. My works (paintings and note cards) have been or currently are on display in some of the area banks, Burdick's Restaurant, Walpole Artisans Gallery, Colony Mill, and Ruggles and Hunt in Walpole. I have participated in several art walks and art tours and am a member of MAAA and SRAG (Saxton's River Art Guild).

It was when I stepped away from working with brushes and dove into the world of palette knife painting that my paintings truly became my own. I scrape, I sculpt, I layer and I draw with undaunted passion to make what I see, what you see and a little more, always a little more.

Carol Corliss

ARTIST STATEMENT - "I love to paint, because I paint what I love."
I completed a few paintings before I realized how important this was to me. If I don't have a relationship with the subject matter, my heart isn't in it. I remember my very first painting in an art class. The teacher chose a subject I never would have chosen. Well, I'm open minded and he was the teacher, but to this day that painting still sits unfinished as a reminder to me that I need a link to the subject. When there is that special connection, the painting almost paints itself. Capturing that true sense of time and place, my art is primarily inspired by the magnificent scenery and abundant wildlife that surrounds us here in New England with occasional scenes from my travels. I see beauty everywhere and hope that my paintings convey this to the viewer.
The 13th century poet & philosopher Rumi said it best: "Let the beauty of what you love, be what you do"
BIO
NH artist Carol Corliss has always had some form of art in her life. Through her adult life, she ventured into ceramics, owning her own shop, teaching classes and becoming a certified teacher. She has worked in many mediums over the years in arts and crafts including gardening, cake decorating, chair caning, knitting, making porcelain dolls, needlepoint, quilting, sewing, woodworking, and cooking along with many other crafts - anything with her hands; but none of these quite fulfilled her artistic sensibility. In 2001, she discovered pastels and loves the immediacy of pastels and getting her fingers in touch with the luminous colors. Carol continues to paint in pastels and takes workshops from local & national artists when available. Her love of art started in primary school and while interrupted many times by life's other demands, it has been a constant in her life. Having also worked in acrylic, she has been drawn to the vibrant colors of pastels and is presently creating only pastel paintings.
She is a member of the Monadnock Area Artists Association, Pastel Society of New Hampshire,
Saxtons River Art Guild, and the Vermont Pastel Society.
Barbara Danser
My art focuses on the joyful energy of life in nature and on the continuum of time: beginnings and endings, rejuvenation, connections between Earth and universe and the mystery of spirit. My work is a combined creative energy of mind, spirit and environment. The environment may be the company of fellow artists or complete solitude, outdoors in nature or working in my studio. I am a multiple-media artist, and accordingly I often choose to work in different media and styles. When I have no subject in mind or lack a vision, I let the paint fly and the clay take its own shape. I enjoy the experience of making art, and this experience is as important to me as the finished work.
Barbara Danser is Founder of the Pastel Society of New Hampshire. Barbara has been juried into shows at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth and at the Sharon Arts Gallery in Peterborough, and she has participated in the Monadnock Art Auction, Keene Art Walk and numerous shows at the Jaffrey Civic Center. Her work is represented in numerous galleries, including the Monadnock Fine Arts Gallery in Keene and Mill Brook Gallery and Sculpture Garden in Concord.
Barbara Danser has conducted plein air painting workshops in the American Southwest and in Italy since 1996. Barbara’s studio are in Hancock and Jaffrey.
